What happens when sex isn’t a given? What do we feel we need to ‘declare’ to someone when we date and what information do we expect from others. Declare follows four couples navigating sexual desire and asexuality in an early relationship.

  • Writer: Kate Reed
  • Dramaturg: Monica Cox
  • Directors: Monica Cox and Devian Maside León
  • Performers: Kate Reed, Gabriel Murphy, Lavan Jeyarupalingam, Caitlin Mallory

Monica is a truly brilliant director-writer-dramaturg. Her dramaturgical support was invaluable in developing the script and finding the heart of the project. She has fantastic ability to connect to text and character, offering new insights and perspectives. Her directing style is both collaborative and assured, enabling actors to give their best performance and writer’s to explore their scripts to their full potential. Monica facilitates rehearsal spaces that feel inclusive, energetic and thoughtful – allowing everyone to bring their full selves and express their creativity. I would highly recommend her!
– Kate Reed, Writer

An intuitive, sensitive, and decisive collaborator; an absolute joy to work with!
– Gabriel Murphy, Actor

Monica is one of those rare directors who can naturally foster a genuinely collaborative working environment. She has a unique ability to sift through many ideas to create a clear and unified vision.
– Caitlin Mallory

I really enjoyed working with Monica! She helped me discover the character for myself, left room for me to bring my own creativity, but kept a gentle hand on the whole process, so we remained focused and ended up with a moving show that I was very proud to be a part of.
